ORIGIN OF Girlboss

This term was created and coined in her autobiographical novel by writer and entrepreneur Sophia Amoruso. Living many ups and downs in her process to forge her path, she was very clear that she would be the only person in charge of her life.

So this hashtag that brought several changes in the concept of empowerment, was born in 2014 when this memoir called #Girlboss was published.

After making many mistakes and going through many jobs, an opportunity came to her, a stroke of luck. Based on determination, she was able to build with her own hands what would become an online fashion emporium, the website Nasty Gal of which even Netflix has made a series.

The term can be translated into Spanish as the boss, or the one in charge and that goes much further, however, it also refers to other things such as enjoying that experience, learning from mistakes, facing fears and even breaking the rules or taking risks and if you fall, getting up.

Nasty Gal went from an eBay startup to a business with over $40 million in funding, customers in 60 countries and a physical store on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles.

The book Girlboss spent 18 weeks on The New York Times bestseller list and prompted its author to launch a podcast called Girlboss Radio.

All videos with the hashtag #GirlBoss have had over 6 billion views on TikTok and there are also 26 million posts on Instagram. It has also been used more than 4.5 million times on Twitter over the past 8 years.
