Definition of Inegi

The inegi is a Mexican public institution that performs an important task within the society of that country, thus collaborating in various state and national processes. If you want to know more, below, we will tell you what is the meaning of Inegi and what is his role in Mexico.

The initials inegi in Mexico refer to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography which has its headquarters in the city of Aguas Calientes.

Census

This entity is in charge of carrying out the count of the country’s total population, that is, the censuses.

These censuses according to their nature are carried out periodically, for example, the population census is carried out every 10 years.

Also, the inegi conducts agricultural censuses every 5 years and, sporadically, executes educational censuses of schools, students and teachers.  

During the year 2020, in Mexico the national population census was carried out in the middle of the Coronavirus era , which has sparked a slight controversy among Mexican citizens.

Other Functions

As a statistical institution, it is also in charge of integrating the systems of state and national accounts for subsequent analysis.

On the other hand, it is also in charge of creating indices or parameters for consumer and producer prices respectively.

In its Geographical function, the Inegi also functions as the main cartographic entity in the country, which determines the value of the unit of measurement and updating .

The value of the unit of measure and update is the constant by which the value of the fines is calculated .

As additional information, the National Institute of Geography was created in 1983 and functions as a 100% autonomous body.
